중국이 그 뒤를 이었다 로 보시면 좋을 듯 하네요. be folowed by 명 명사가 주어 뒤를 있다.

안녕하세요? 물소리님 조금만 추가하면요. A follows B. = B is followed by A. 순서상 B가 앞서고 A가 따라감. \그는 나를 따랐다\ 하려면 he followed me. 하죠. B인 내가 앞서는 거죠. 수동태로 표현하면 I was followed by him. 위 지문에서는 south africa가 1위고 그 다음이 중국임 (2위)
