should 생략 질문 입니다

안녕하세요오늘은 should의 생략에관한 질문이 있습니다.

cityofficials went to the state capital again and again to ask that something be done about quieting the highway noise.

이 부분에서 something 다음에 should가 생략이 된 것 같습니다.. 그런데 왜 그런건지를 모르겠네요..ㅠㅠ
